Moving to Deltona
Jointly named after the nearby cities of DeLand and Daytona, Deltona is the most populous city in Volusia County. If you’re moving to Deltona to join the other 85,000 residents, here are a few quick facts you should know before you pack up or call a realtor. Located just north of Sanford Florida.
Top Employers
The main employers in the Deltona area are some of the same companies with a large presence throughout Volusia County: Halifax Health, Volusia County schools, and nearby Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (in Daytona Beach) employ many Deltona residents. But retailers like Publix Supermarkets, Winn-Dixie, and Walmart put a lot of people to work as well.
Transportation
Because of its proximity to both Daytona Beach and Orlando (it actually lies halfway between the two towns), getting to, from, and around in Deltona couldn’t be easier. The Votran bus system has a Deltona line, and I4 is nearby. For travel outside the city, a Greyhound bus station and nearby Amtrak and Sunrail stations (in DeLand and DeBary respectively) offer a quick and easy way to travel within the larger Central Florida area. There are even three international airports within 45 minutes: Orlando International, Orlando Sanford International, and Daytona Beach International.
Restaurants
Deltona is full of quick, casual options that the whole family will love. For breakfast (or any time), stop by Bagel King for some of the freshest, tastiest bagels this side of New York. For traditional favorites at lunch, visit the Cocky Rooster for soups, salads, and homestyle entrees like pot roast, meatloaf, and Chicken a la King. Chinese food and pizza are Deltona favorites. Try the lo mein at China Fun or a pepperoni slice at Italiano’s NY Pizza.
Things to Do
Lyonia Preserve is home to the Deltona Library as well as an environmental center and the Deltona amphitheater. Each month during the summer, the amphitheater hosts live concerts and a gathering of food trucks for your family’s enjoyment. For more information, call the city’s Parks and Recreation Department at 386-878-8900.
Wes Crile Park offers a variety of fun activities for the whole family, including a playground, softball field, racquetball courts, rubberized walking trail, indoor gym, rentable pavilions and meeting rooms and–reopening in the spring of 2015–a splash pad for the kids.
Golf lovers will feel right at home at the Deltona Golf Club. Designed by golf course architect Bobby Weed, the Deltona golf course was even named by GolfWeek magazine among the Top 20 Public Courses in Florida in 2013.
For those with more “extreme” tastes, the Lake Butler Recreation Center offers a skate park (as well as basketball court and playground) for skaters and BMXers.
