Winter Garden, Florida is a beautiful area to both visit and call home. Located in Central Florida just west of Orlando, Winter Garden is close to the excitement of the city and it’s world famous theme parks while still having its own unique old Florida style.
The city is rich with history. The area, once known as a citrus town, was incorporated back in 1908. The National Registry of Historic Places includes Winter Garden’s historic downtown area, which features small town charm with exclusive shopping and dining experiences.
Winter Garden also has a vibrant cultural scene, with live music, theater, museums, art galleries, and more. And residents can enjoy the beautiful Florida weather year round. Cool off with fun on the nearby Lake Apopka, or work up a sweat by exploring the many parks and trails that are common throughout the area.
Winter Garden is Central Florida living at its finest.
Schools
One of the most important aspects when choosing a new home for any family is the quality of the local schools. School is where children go to shape their futures. From mathematics to history, and everything in between, children will slowly become the person they are meant to be.
Children will take with them life long lessons that will help them decide what they want to ‘be when they grow up’. And the better a school is, the better your child will be prepared for the future.
Winter Garden public schools are part of the Orange County School District, one of the largest school districts not only in the state of Florida, but in the entire country as well. And the schools found throughout Winter Garden are some of the best in the state of Florida.
Every year the Florida Department of Education grades the public schools, giving out A through F letter grades based on standardized test scores, graduation rates, and more. Whispering Oak Elementary, Tildenville Elementary, William S Maxey Elementary, and Sunridge Middle are all routinely graded as A schools.
There are also private and charter schools available, such as the Foundation Academy, UCP West Orange Charter School, and Saint Lillie V. High School.

Charities
If you ever wanted to give back to your community, you’ve found the right place. Winter Garden is full of opportunities to volunteer and make a difference.
HavServe Volunteer Service Network was founded after the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, with a mission to connect volunteers from around the world with villagers in isolated or hard to reach communities in an effort to foster sustainable community development. HavServe gets their name from the idea that “if you have, you too can serve.”
The Central Florida Diaper Bank helps parents with infants and young toddlers by providing diapers and other basic essentials so that all children can receive quality care. There are multiple ways to help this organization, including a donation to help a mother and child in need, or through volunteering your time.
While many Floridians love their backyard pool and easy access to water, drowning is a serious concern for parents of young children. The Gift of Swimming provides access to drowning prevention resources and life saving swimming lessons to disadvantaged members of the community.
These are just some of the non-profits available in Winter Garden. Below are some other great charities in the Winter Garden community. Take a look to find a charity (or several) that you would be interested in supporting. Then, you can decide what would be the best fit for your time.
