Where Should I Live in Florida?: Orlando vs. Clermont

Lake Eola at Orlando - Orlando vs. Clermont

Florida’s year-round great weather is just one of the reasons why so many people love to move here. But while many people know they want to move to Florida, they are confused about which city should be their next home.

We’ve written about plenty of Florida cities over the past few years—from Miami to Jacksonville—but this time we’re looking a little closer to our own backyard.

In this Central Florida Showdown, we’re looking at Orlando vs. Clermont.

The Answer to “Where Should I Live in Florida?”

Because they are located about an hour away from each other, it’s easy to think of these cities as interchangeable, but there are just as many differences between Orlando and Clermont as there are similarities.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these Central Florida cities to help you decide which city is right for you.

What You Need to Know About Clermont, Florida

With a population of only 35,211, Clermont is definitely the smaller of the two cities. But it’s far from a small town. In fact, the area’s population has more than tripled in the last 30 years and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.

The area has a long way to go to catch up with Orlando, however, yet still has all of the shopping and dining chains you’re used to (it’s not all mom & pop stores here). Plus, LEGOLand, Disney World, and Universal Studios are an easy drive away.

If you’re looking for more fun in your own backyard, look no further than Lake Louisa State Park. It’s great for swimming, biking, hiking and getting some fresh Florida air. You may also enjoy touring Lakeridge Winery or catching the views from the Citrus Tower.

So if you hate crowds but love having the convenience and comfort of “big town” amenities, Clermont has you covered.

What You Need to Know About Orlando

Since it was founded in 1875, the population of Orlando has been steadily growing. (The current number is 280,257.)

Orlando is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It’s home to attractions like Disney World, which some say is the happiest place on Earth. Of course, since it is so well-known, you are going to have to deal with an onslaught of tourists.

While almost all parts of Florida get an influx of “snowbirds” visiting from up North during the winter, Orlando’s theme parks attract tourists all year long. Because of this, you’ll also notice that traffic is pretty heavy throughout the entire day and week.

Of course, the influx of people is what makes Orlando worth living in. After all, there wouldn’t be nearly as many fun things to do if there weren’t so many people doing them. If you want to live in a place where there is always something happening and plenty of activities all around you, Orlando is a great place to choose.

Orlando or Clermont?

By this point, it’s probably obvious whether you would prefer living in Orlando or Clermont.

For those that want to live at a slower pace, Clermont is the obvious choice. You’re close enough to the “big city” to enjoy the attractions, but not so close that you have to fight traffic every day.

Orlando, on the other hand, has some quiet spots, but is definitely a bigger and busier town. If you love to be out and about, exploring your town, Orlando is right for you.
