5 Reasons to Hire a Moving Company

5 Reasons to Hire a Moving Company

If you’re facing an upcoming move, you know there’s a lot to think about: what neighborhood to move into, how to make the transition easier on the kids, whether or not you’ll have enough cabinet space in your new kitchen, and (perhaps most of all) whether or not to hire a moving company.

Like many of the decisions you’ll have to make regarding your move, there are many different factors to consider.

Cost might be a key factor. The location of your new home might be another. But regardless of whether you’re moving across town or across the country,  here are 5 great reasons to hire a moving company for your next move.

1. You don’t have to lift a finger.

Okay, so you may have to lift a pen to sign the contract, but after that, the pros do all the work. Most companies can even do the packing and unpacking for you, so you don’t have to touch a single Sharpie.

When organizing your own move, you have to lift all those heavy boxes and furniture pieces, yell at your dad to drop the couch so he doesn’t throw his back out, remind your friends 20 times which bedroom is the master suite…all while making sure that nothing gets broken or lost. Save yourself the hassle and frustration of orchestrating a chaotic move and let the professionals take over.

Now all you have to do is decide how to arrange the couches.

2. Your move will go faster.

Your friends are pros at listening to your problems and remembering your birthday, but not at moving furniture. And trusting a group of middle-aged accountants to carry heirlooms up the stairs is just begging for trouble. And who’s to say how many of the 12 buddies you invited will actually show up on moving day?

When you hire a moving company, you’re guaranteed a crew of specially trained movers who do this day-in and day-out. They know the most efficient ways of getting boxes on and off a truck and maneuvering couches around awkward corners.

In fact, Cento Family Moving can have the average 3-bedroom house moved in about five hours (not including packing or unpacking). Good luck hitting that target on your own without breaking anything. Which brings us to our next point….

3. Your stuff is less likely to get damaged.broken walkman

There’s a reason why they call them “pros.” Professional movers know what they’re doing, have the right equipment to protect your items, and haven’t been refueling with beer all day (furniture + stairs + Heineken = an accident waiting to happen). Movers have also developed the right muscles for lifting furniture dollies over your front step without tipping them over.

When friends and family are trying to be helpful, that often means trying to be fast (to get the job done quicker so they can sit down and eat some pizza). And when non-professionals are fast, quality suffers. Wouldn’t you rather trust your belongings to the people that do this kind of thing every day?

4. You are less likely to be damaged.

You might be able to handle a box of dishes, but what happens when your couch potato brother-in-law tries to help you move the piano? And have you ever tried to move a sofa bed? Ouch!

Moving is hard on your body, and it can be downright harmful if you don’t have the tools, knowledge, or experience necessary to keep yourself in top working order. So rather than throw your back out trying to push your dining table onto the U-Haul, let the movers strap on their back braces and get the job done the right way.

5. If something goes wrong, the moving company will be accountable.

It’s always best to expect the unexpected, especially on Moving Day. Before you start calling your group of friends, consider what could go wrong and how you’re going to proceed if you’re left in the lurch.

If something breaks, a moving company will have insurance. (Good luck getting your frat buddies to pay you back.)

If a bad storm delays your move, a moving company will be available another day. (Your friends all have work or other commitments.)

Because you paid the moving company—and because they have a reputation to uphold—they’ll be more interested in rectifying any mistakes than your friends and family (they know you’ll love them no matter what they break).

Dealing professionally with a professional moving company isn’t going to make any Thanksgiving dinners awkward.

Of course, after deciding to hire a moving company, you need to make sure to select a trustworthy company with a reputation of excellence. They can get everything together faster and better than I ever could! I’ll have to give it a shot. Thanks for the information!

  • I really like that the moving company would be accountable for any problems or accidents if you hire them. Since so many things can go wrong during a move, I think it is better to be safe rather than sorry, and get a company with insurance. After all, accidents happen all the time that are out of your control. For example, the truck could break down in the middle of the road, and the heat inside could damage all of your belongings.

  • I really like how this article talks about how your move will go faster because they know the best ways to put things in the truck. This is a big deal to me because in my past moves this has been the biggest problem. When I have friends come and help they aren’t as careful as professional movers would be.

  • Your stuff being less likely to get damaged is perhaps one of my favorite things about hiring a mover. I think that a lot of people don’t understand that they can damage their goods when they are moving on their own. There are so many things that I have broken when moving on my own. Do you have any other tips, particularly about hiring a mover?

  • Very joyful post. Moving is one of the most stressful activities in a human’s life. These movers can take care of all details, major moving companies have excellent insurance coverage, so you don’t have to worry about losing your furniture or other stuff because of a road accident.

  • Wow! I agree with your five moving reasons. Hire the right moving company is a big part of the process and your hire moving reasons are such an interesting and useful. Thanks a lot for the valuable information. Keep it up.

  • I am happy to learn that one can speed up the moving process by hiring a moving company. Knowing that you will be guaranteed a crew of specially trained movers would offer peace of mind when it comes to transporting your valuables. This would also be an ideal option because you would not have to burden friends and family members by asking them to help.

  • Hiring a moving company definitely makes a lot of sense. I’ve hurt my back multiple times trying to help people move, and I don’t want to do it again. Like you said, having professionals, who own back braces, move the heavy things just makes sense!

  • It is a good thing to hire a moving company while moving. Moving process is a stressful work. I read your blog, the way you said it is perfect. Thanks for giving valuable knowledge!
